OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha volleyball won its first match of the season in dominant fashion with a 3-0 victory over Milwaukee at home on Friday night.
The Mavs (1-0) took the first set 25-16. The second set proved to be more of a battle with a score of 25-20. The third and final set closed out the match with a 25-18 for a win over Milwaukee (0-1).
Once Omaha held the lead in the first and third set, it did not waver. The second set saw more back-and-forth with nine tie scores and two lead changes.
In their first true showing of the season, the Mavs dominated in every category. Senior
Kali Jurgensmeier led the Omaha offense with 16 kills. Sophomore
Ella Tiarks and freshman
Faith Venable followed up with 10 each. The Mavericks totaled 46 through three sets compared to the Panthers' 29.
On the defensive end, the Mavs tallied eight total team blocks to Milwaukee's five. Junior
Emily Huss was credited with Omaha's only solo block of the evening. Sophomore
Celia Spilker and Venable held down the front line with Spilker credited with five partial blocks and Venable with four.
Junior Makayla Tiahart aced the Panthers twice.
Julia Owens,
Davis Guetterman and Venable each recorded one ace.
