Volleyball welcomes Milwaukee for home weekend

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha volleyball kicks off the 2025 campaign with a pair of home matches against Milwaukee on Friday at 7 p.m. CT and Saturday at 3 p.m. CT.

The Mavericks and Panthers have only met once in Omaha's 55 years of volleyball. The Mavs beat Milwaukee 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-21) on Sep. 14, 2018, in a neutral site match.

Omaha was picked to finish fourth in the Summit League. South Dakota State was the favorite to win the league with South Dakota picked second and St. Thomas third.

Last season, Milwaukee went 20-12 overall and 15-3 in conference play. The Panthers postseason run ended in the Horizon League semifinals with a 3-1 loss to Cleveland State.

Omaha returns nine to the team led by seniors Kali Jurgensmeier, a 2024 All-Summit League first team selection, and Morgan DeBow who recorded 38 kills and 12 digs in 2024. Jurgensmeirer was named a player to watch by the conference alongside Emily Huss.

Head coach Matt Buttermore added seven newcomers in the off season with five freshmen and two transfers.

Buttermore enters his seventh season at the helm of the Mavs with a record of 87-55 during his years in Omaha. He is the longest tenured Division I head volleyball coach in the state of Nebraska. He is joined by second year assistant Kyle Breitbarth and first year assistant and Omaha newcomer Ashley Petak.
