OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha women's soccer tied Northern Colorado, 1-1, in the season opener at home Thursday night.
The Mavs (0-0-1) had a hot start and led the Bears (0-0-1) with five shots to three in the 18th minute. The upper hand did not last long for Omaha. Northern Colorado's Riley Kaali-Nagy sent one in the bottom right corner to establish an early lead for the Bears.
Freshman Kendall Dobberstein came off the bench to even the score in the 75th minute in her collegiate soccer debut. The Omaha local shot an unassisted laser at the back of the net and past UNC's Maddie Smith.
The match ended with ties in multiple categories. Both teams recorded 10 shots with five on-goal. Omaha's Lauren Schmidt, Charley Kort, Payten Ivins and K. Dobberstein each finished with two shots.
Senior goalkeeper Charlotte Huggard faced recorded four saves and played the full 90 minutes in her Omaha debut.
