GREELEY, Colo. - Omaha Baseball (13-23, 7-12 Summit League) fell 3-4 to Northern Colorado in the bottom of the 11th inning on Friday evening at Jackson Field.
This was the longest game the Mavericks have played in 2025 and their first loss against the Bears this season. Omaha had a 3-0 record against Northern Colorado heading into the series opener.
Henry Zipay got the Mavericks off to a hot start as he homered to left center in the game's second at-bat and gave his squad a 1-0 lead.
Then, in the first inning, Jackson Trout made a highlight-worthy leaping catch to keep Ben Weber in the first of his five scoreless innings pitched.
After Zipay's second homer of the season, the game saw no scoring until Tyler Bishop crushed a two-run bomb to left and extended the Mavericks' lead to 3-0.
That was the end of Omaha's offensive luck as the bats ran dry through the following six innings. On the flip side, Northern Colorado had a three-run bottom of the sixth to tie the game.
Weber was done after the sixth inning. Then Cameron Teinert came in and pitched four solid innings, allowing only one hit, no walks and two strikeouts.
When the game went to extras, Teinert saw one inning of action. However, Luke Gainer came in and loaded the bases and ultimately walked the Bears to a walkoff-win.
Gainer took the loss after allowing the Bears' walkoff.
Omaha returns for game two of the series at Jackson Field tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT in Greeley, Colo.
