OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha men's soccer head coach Donovan Dowling has elevated Ed Gordon to assistant coach, it was announced Monday.
"We are so fortunate to have Eddie join our staff. Ever since I arrived at Omaha, Ed has been someone I have been trying to recruit to join our staff," said Dowling. "Ed embodies the ethos of our program in every way. He has jumped headfirst into his new role and has made us better already. On top of him being a great addition as a coach and mentor, the fact that Eddie is an alum of Omaha is the icing on the cake.
"He lived the story of a kid who played four years at Omaha, had the opportunity to live out his childhood dream of playing professional soccer, and is now in a role working to help the next generation achieve their dreams at his alma mater," Dowling continued.
The Mavericks' iron man, Gordon's 77 appearances in an Omaha kit are the most in program history. In five seasons, Gordon, a defensive midfielder, etched three assists and as a senior, played in 16 of the Mavericks' 17 fixtures.
On Omaha's staff, Gordon will be involved in all facets of the program including on-field coaching, recruiting, video and data analytics and alumni relations.
"I'm so excited to be back with the Mavericks as a member of the staff," said Gordon. I hope to help pave the way for the next generation of players and continue to bring success to the program that gave me so much."
After his Omaha career, Gordon went on to play professionally with Union Omaha, in addition to stints with Black Rock FC, Des Moine Menace and the Ocean City Nor'easters.
