OMAHA, Neb. – In a contest split into two days because of severe weather Thursday night, Oral Roberts added a run in the resumed contest and defeated Omaha 8-6 Friday afternoon in Summit League action.
Jackson Trout finished 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs and a homer.
Tyler Bishop put up two RBIs and a run on 1-for-5 hitting with a homer.
Noah Greise posted two RBIs on 1-for-4 hitting, while
Grant Sommers posted a 2-for-4 effort at the plate with a double.
Tanner Foertsch pitched four innings in his start with four strikeouts and two hits scattered.
Luke Gainer (5-2) took the loss in an inning of work, with three hits surrendered.
Brayden Curtis pitched 1.2 innings with a strikeout and three hits.
Cameron Teinert notched two strikeouts.
Sam Beck pitched the final 1.1 innings, struck out a batter, and allowed one hit.
ORU took the early lead with a sacrifice fly by Wailele Kane-Yates.
The Mavericks answered back in the bottom of the fourth with a two-RBI single by Freise to left field, bringing in
Blake Stenger and
Mason Gaines to take a 2-1 lead.
Oral Roberts stormed back with two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh to take a 6-4 lead.
However, the Mavs used a two-run homer by Trout and another two-run shot by Bishop to close the gap, tying the ballgame at six after seven innings.
Oral Roberts took a 7-6 lead in the eighth when Owen Coil blasted a homer to left field before the game was stopped due to the inclement weather.
The Golden Eagles added one more run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Ethan Fender to clinch an 8-6 win for Oral Roberts.
Omaha will finish the series against Oral Roberts tomorrow at Tal Anderson Field.
