Box Score KEARNEY, Neb. - The Mavericks opened a four-game road trip today with a 5-2 win over in-state opponent Nebraska-Kearney.
Omaha is back to a game under .500 at 6-7, while the Lopers lose their third in a row to fall to 6-9.
For the first time this year, the Mavericks swept the doubles round with a trio of quick victories in which no duo ever trailed.
Mikhail Korkunov and
Bryan Kuntz got things started with 6-1 win in the first match, followed by
Christian Trevey and
Pavan Uppu with a 6-4 win and
Ethan Gaubert and
Caleb Peterson with a 6-3 victory.
Uppu would be the first on the board in the singles round as he bested Aaron Osmond for the second time today 6-2, 6-2. UNK would take two of the next three matches with Omaha's Gaubert picking up its one win after coming back from a 2-4 deficit in the second set and winning in tiebreakers 7-5.
With the Mavericks up just 3-2, it came down to Korkunov and Peterson to close things out. After winning the first set 6-2, Korkunov fell behind early and could not quite go the distance in set two, falling 7-6. Fortunately, he would bounce back in set three with another dominant showing as his 6-3 win sealed Omaha's victory on the day. Peterson put a cap on things with 7-6, 6-4 win in the sixth and final match.
