Volleyball adds Petak as assistant coach

OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha volleyball head coach Matt Buttermore announced Monday the addition of Omaha native Ashley Petak to the Mavericks' staff.

Petak joins Omaha after an eight-year stint at Regis.

"I'm excited for what Ashley will add to our program," said Buttermore. "She's an Omaha native who is passionate about the development of student-athletes on and off the court. She's used to competing at a championship level and will bring those competencies and expectations in training, recruiting and fundraising to our program."

While at Regis (NCAA Division II), Petak aided in the development of 14 All-Americans, 13 All-Region honorees, 44 All-RMAC selections, two RMAC Players of the Year, two RMAC Defensive Players of the Year, one RMAC Freshman of the Year and one RMAC Setter of the Year.

In her tenure, 63 student-athletes earned Academic All-RMAC nods and one was named an Academic All-American.

Over the last two seasons, Regis was the best blocking team in all of NCAA Division II. The 2023 RMAC tournament champions, the team enjoyed a regular season crown in 2019, later winning the south central regional and advancing to the national quarterfinal. The Rangers compiled a record of 168-61 in her tenure.

"I am deeply grateful to Coach Buttermore for the incredible opportunity to return to Omaha," said Petak. "As an Omaha native, I grew up attending Maverick camps and cheering on the team and I've always considered this city to be the hub for elite volleyball training and competition. I am thrilled to contribute to the continued success of Omaha volleyball and to help elevate the program to new heights in 2025!"

Prior to arriving in Colorado, Petak coached at Missouri Western and Augustana, as well as a graduate assistantship at Minnesota State Mankato. At Augustana, Petak coached two All-Americans, seven All-NISC selections and 15 Academic All-NISC honorees. She led the scout team for the Mavericks in Mankato.

A four-year starting setter at Truman State (B.S. '11), Petak compiled a collegiate record of 118-35 (.771), making four NCAA tournament appearances including a conference title, regional title and trip to the national semifinal. A two-time MIAA Honorable Mention honoree, Petak was a Third Team All-MIAA selection in 210.

Petak was recognized nationally as a member of the 2019 AVCA 30 Under 30 class.
