Box Score OMAHA, Neb. - In the opening match of their final homestand of the season, the Mavericks claimed a 5-2 Summit League victory over Illinois State today.

Omaha is back to .500 at 8-8 on the season and moves to 2-0 in conference play, while Redbirds drop to 4-14 and 0-1 in league play.

"So proud of the way this team fights," remarked Head Coach Hunter Clark. "Singles across all 6 courts was a battle and the guys completely bought into the pressure of the conference match and took over the match."

The Mavericks got off to a fast start in doubles play as Mikhail Korkunov and Bryan Kuntz overwhelmed Adrian Dibildox and Tomas Valencia in a 6-2 win, before Ethan Gaubert and Pavan Uppu secured the doubles point by holding off a late push from Tin Ostro and Caden Scarlett in a 6-4 triumph.

It did not take long for Omaha to put the match away as the first three singles matches all went to the Mavericks. Uppu never trailed for a single game in his 6-2, 6-4 win over Jett Leong. Next up was Korkunov who saw early leads slip away from him in each of the first two sets as he bounced back to take set one 7-5 before falling 6-4 in set two. In the final set, with the score tied 3-3, he rattled off three-straight wins to take the match.

Gaubert would clinch Omaha's victory as he came back from a 3-1 deficit to win the first set 7-5, before bouncing back after losing his early lead in set two en route to a 7-6 win over Tin Ostro to make it 4-0 Mavericks. Caleb Peterson gave Omaha its final win of the day after coming out on top 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in a back-and-forth match against Caden Scarlett.

"It feels great to start the conference season 2-0 but we know the job is not done yet," concluded Clark.
