LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Mavericks were held to only a single run today in their 5-1 loss to Kansas in the final game of their four-game series.
Omaha went 1-3 in the series to end the week at 3-8, while the Jayhawks suffered their first loss of the season on Friday but are still 10-1 on the year,
Innings 1-4
CJ Hood had his best outing yet as a Mavericks, going four innings with one run allowed. He quickly got into and out of trouble in the first, loading the bases but successfully stranding all three runners. Over the next two innings he allowed just one hit while getting four batters to ground out. KU would manage its lone run against him in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI ground out.
As for Omaha's bats, the team did manage to strike first in the top of the third when
Jackson Trout came in clutch once again and sent one up the middle for a two-out RBI single
Innings 5-9
Just as they have all series, the Jayhawks did most of their damage with the long ball. In the bottom of the fifth, Jackson Haugh and Tommy Barth hit back-to-back home runs to make it 5-1 Kansas.
In the end, despite three straight shutout innings from
Landon Mueller and
Oliver Mabee from the sixth-eighth innings, the Mavericks were unable to add more runs their total.
Inside the Box Score
- Trout recorded at least one hit in all four games this series and drove in at least one run in three of them. Overall he batted 6-for-16 (.375) with four RBIs and one run scored.
