Box Score OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks won the battle for Omaha today when they headed downtown and beat rival Creighton 4-3.
Omaha is now 4-5 on the season and 1-2 in its Big East portion of the schedule, while the Bluejays drop to 8-3.
"The boys showed some serious fight today to come back and win this match," remarked Head Coach Hunter Clark. "It was an incredible atmosphere and to get the win against a rival at their place makes it that much sweeter."
After coming away with Omaha's only win of the doubles round with an impressive 6-2 win over Ethan Neil and Rocky McKenzie,
Mikhail Korkunov and
Bryan Kuntz put up mirrored scores in their singles victories. Korkunov took the opening set tiebreaker and bested Yuma Daijima 7-5, 6-2, while Kuntz came out strong with a quick 6-2 win in the first over Zachary Kuo before also taking the tiebreaker in the second.
In between these two wins,
Christian Trevey also came out on top as he bested Ethan Neil 6-4, 6-4 to make it 2-2, before Kuntz's win gave Omaha its first lead of the day at 3-2.
Pavan Uppu would put it away for the Mavericks as he overcame a narrow 7-6 loss in the opening set to Blake Eason, before coming back and taking the next set 6-4 and cruising to victory in the third 6-2

The Mavericks play their fourth and final Big East opponent of the year next Saturday in Cinncinnati, Ohio when they face Xavier.
