Box Score OMAHA, Neb. - At the midway point of their stretch of four-straight Big East opponents, the Mavericks were downed 6-1 today by St. John's to end the week.
Omaha drops to 3-5 on the season, while the Johnnies remain undefeated at 10-0.
Bryan Kuntz had himself another great day on the court as he got started alongside
Mikhail Korkunov with a 6-4 victory in their doubles match against Armando Sotelo and Max Amling. Then, in singles play, he picked up Omaha's lone victory of the day with hs closest match of the year so far. After losing the lead late in the first set, Kuntz came back to tie it at 6-6 before winning the tiebreaker 7-3 to take the set. Then, after dropping the second set 6-4, he was again forced to go into tiebreakers in the third set where he narrowly edged out Carl Gustavson in the final game to take the set and the match 7-5.
Despite the final score, the Mavericks were roughly even with the Johnnies for most of the matches, losing the doubles point in a 7-5 tiebreaker in the final match, before watching Korkunov (5-7, 6-3, 0-6),
Ethan Gaubert (6-2, 3-6, 4-6),
Pavan Uppu (6-1, 3-6, 1-6), and
Christian Trevey (6-7, 7-6, 0-1) all went to three sets in their losses.

The Mavericks head downtown next week when they take on crosstown rival Creighton on Saturday at 6 p.m. in their third of four Big East matchups.
