NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Mavericks closed out their opening road trip with a 10-7 loss today in the final game of their three-game series at Tulane.
Omaha ends opening weekend at 0-3, while the Green Wave is 3-0.
Innings 1-5
CJ Hood started off strong in his Mavericks debut as the former Nebraska and LBSU pitcher began the day with two scoreless innings and two strikeouts. Like in the first two games of the series, however, trouble ensued in the third inning as four different pitchers were used to get through what ended up being an eight-run inning for Tulane.
Cameron Teinert, also making his Mavericks debut, was the last of those four pitchers to come in and he got the next two batters out on just five pitches to end the inning. He followed this up with a scoreless fourth and fifth innings, capped off by his first strikeout in the bottom of the fifth.
Innings 6-9
After going hitless through the first five innings, the Mavericks got three singles in a row to open the sixth and load the bases.
Tyler Bishop and
Cardel Dick followed up with back-to-back four-pitch walks to force in the first two runs of the day for Omaha. Then,
Mason Gaines lined a 1-0 pitch into center field to plate two more to make it 8-4.
The Green Wave would get one run back in the bottom of the inning, before adding another in the eighth to go up 10-4. Omaha made one last push in the top of the ninth, getting another run on a sac fly from
Sam Beck before Bishop cashed in two with a single, but that was all the Mavericks would get as they fell three runs short.
