Box Score OMAHA, Neb. - Back at home for just the second time of the season, the Mavericks played one of their closest matches of the season as they played to multiple tiebreakers vs. Butler but ultimately lost 5-2.
Omaha is now 3-4 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 5-3.
After dropping the opening doubles match, Omaha nearly evened the score in the second
Mikhail Korkunov and
Bryan Kuntz battled to a 6-6 tie in a back-and-forth bout with Nicolas Arts and Rahulniket Konakanchi. The match remained extremely close in the tiebreaker at 4-4, before the pair from Butler got hot at the end and took the match and secured the doubles point.
Kuntz and Korkunov would come out on top later in the day in the singles round, though, with Kuntz getting even with Arts as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory. Korkunov then followed up with another dominant showing against Patrick Joss as he gave Omaha a 2-1 lead with his 6-2, 6-3 win.
Mikel Garmendia,
Pavan Uppu, and
Christian Trevey all forced a third set today, but none could close the door on their matches as each fell in the final set.
