NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Mavericks dropped to 0-2 to start their 2025 season today as they were topped 10-4 by Tulane in the middle game of the opening series.
Innings 1-4
Tulane struck first with a two-out three-run home run from Matthias Haas in the bottom of the first off of
Ben Weber in his Mavericks debut. After bouncing back with a scoreless second, the offense backed up Weber with a two-out RBI single from
Tyler Bishop to get Omaha on the board.
After another run for Tulane in the bottom of the third made it 4-1, the Mavericks got within two in the top of the fourth when
Grant Sommers launched a solo shot over the wall in left for the team's first home run of the season. The Green Wave, though, responded with another three spot in the bottom of the inning to go up 7-2.
Innings 5-9
Omaha looked primed to have its biggest inning yet in the top of the fifth, as
Mason Gaines got things started when he scored Bishop all the way from first base on an RBI double for his first career hit. Following back-to-back walks to load the bases, however, the next two Mavericks went down swinging as the one run was all they would get.
Following yet another three-run inning from the Green Wave in the bottom of the fifth, the Mavericks had another chance to do some damage the next inning, getting two men on with one out, but neither would come around to score. Omaha would get one more run today in the top of the seventh when
Trent Burkhalter sent one over the scoreboard in left for his first homer of the year to make it 10-4.
