Swimming and Diving defeat Augustana on the road

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Omaha Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving traveled to Sioux Falls, S.D., competing against Augustana on Dec. 12. The Mavericks swept the Vikings, as the men scored 183 points and the women totaled 185.50.

Across 32 events, the Mavs took home 26 first place finishes.

In the pool, the Mavs dominated the women's 200 Yard Medley Relay with sophomores Danica Brunk (McPherson, Kan.), Ella Drewes (Eden Prairie, Minn.), Catalina Kahan (Los Angeles, Calif.) and junior Leah Spencer (McCook, Neb.) taking first. For the men, sophomore Aidin Kolb (Pickrell, Neb.), freshman Brady Waininpaa (Hudson, WI), Mason Zadina (Omaha, Neb.) and senior Grant Schaeffer (Minot, N.D.) also secured first.

For the women's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, senior Olivia Dendinger (Papillion, Neb.), Kahan, sophomore Kate Novinski (Grand Island, Neb.) and Julia Thomas notched first, while for the men finishing in first was Zadina, senior Jace Walker (Houston, Texas) ,sophomore Trevor Vocasek (Lincoln, Neb.) and Schaeffer.

For diving, freshman Nathan Frette (Lake Buena Vista, Fla.) continued his standout rookie season, sweeping both events and breaking his own school records in the 1-meter and 3-meter. Frette posted a score of 366.23 on the 1-meter and 371.40 on the 3-meter to take first-place in both events.

Sophomore Ava Snyder (Roca, Neb.) took first in the 1m, earning her first Zone qualifying score, while senior Bella Price (Minot, N.D.) won the 3m.

Also shining on the boards, with his best performance of the season, freshman Stone Larson (St. Paul, Minn.) joined Snyder also tallying a Zone qualifying score on the 1m, placing second behind Frette with a mark of 324.83.

"Great team win tonight from both our men and women," said head coach Jessica Hessel. "I thought we pushed hard for some nice swims especially in some new races for many of them. Hats off to our divers walking away with two new NCAA Zone qualifiers and Nathan improving his scores to break both his school records."

"I thought everyone did a great job with their goal of ending the fall semester with a positive performance," said diving coach Eric Sprague. "The team showed a lot of determination to perform well. Congrats to Nathan Frette on winning both boards and resetting his school records in the process, he hit some very difficult dives in the meet. Bella Price and Ava Snyder had great performances picking up their wins and Ava got her first ever Zone qualifying score on 1-meter in the process. Stone Larson put together his best performance of the season and reached a Zone qualifying score on 1 meter as well. Stone and Ava join Nathan and Owen Kipp with those qualifying standards and that's the first time in program history we've had more than two in a single season. I'm impressed with how this group is training and performing at this point in the season and we're looking forward to a little break before we hit the spring semester."
