OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Volleyball sent off three seniors in the best way possible, with a 3-0 win over Kansas City in the regular-season finale at Baxter Arena on Thursday night.
The Mavericks (10-15, 7-9 Summit League) put their feet on the gas and did not let up the whole match to defeat Kansas City (3-26, 2-14). Omaha won the first and third sets with a margin of 25-18 and really turned up the heat in the second set with a score of 25-12.
This sweep marked Omaha's sixth at home this season. Every home win for the Mavericks was a perfect 3-0 victory.
The Mavs saw 42 kills in the match while holding the Roos to 29. Omaha also tallied nine aces, eight more than Kansas City.
In her last match at Baxter Arena, senior
Kali Jurgensmeier (Wahoo, Neb.) tallied 12 kills with one ace for a total of 13.5 points. Of the 25 matches Omaha played in the regular-season, Jurgensmeier hit double-digit point totals in 24.
Sophomore
Julia Owens (Tempe, Ariz.) led in aces with five for a new career high.
Omaha's defense was working together on the front line. The Mavs saw 15 assisted blocks on the night with junior
Emily Huss (Fairbury, Neb.) leading the way with six.
Jurgensmeier, senior
Morgan DeBow (Overland Park, Kan.) and junior
Davis Guetterman (Louisburg, Kan.) were honored in a pregame ceremony. Combined, the three have played 231 collegiate volleyball matches for a total of 803 sets.
The (6) Mavericks will face (3) St. Thomas in the first round of the 2025 Summit League Volleyball Championship. The quarterfinal is set for Sunday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. CT at First Bank & Trust Arena in Brookings, S.D. The match will be streamed on the Summit League Network.
