Wainionpaa, Thomas named Kwik Star Peak Swimmers of the Week

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Omaha Swimming and Diving freshman Brady Wainionpaa (Hudson, Wis.) and junior Julia Thomas (Coloraod Springs, Colo.) were named the Summit League's Kwik Star Peak Swimmers of the Week, it was announced Tuesday, after standout performances at the A3 Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois in Carbondale, Ill.

At Shea Natatorium, Wainionpaa helped lead Omaha to a second-place finish (3:15.36) in the 400-medley relay and the Mavericks third broken program record of the night.

Individually, Wainionpaa tallied 49 individual points over the weekend, competing in the 200 IM (1:49.57) and 100 breast (54.70), securing the top time in the Summit League for both events. He also competed in the 200 breast and 100 breast relay (53.95 split), the second fastest in the Summit.

Thomas scored 44 individual points, logging season best times in her fly and free events. She had top times in the Summit for the 50 free (23.53), 100 free (51.35), 100 free relay split (50.22), and the 50 free relay split (22.94), while placing second in the league for the 200 fly (2:05.75).

"Julia showed big improvements at her mid-season meet from a year ago," said Omaha head coach Jessica Hessel "Her fly is progressing nicely, and her sprint free has had insane improvements. Her hard work is really starting to pay off in her individual events and clutch relay swims. She is a great member of our team in all aspects, and I couldn't be prouder of her. Brady doesn't want to slow down anytime soon. He has become dominate in the breast and IM events with huge time drops already this season. We are working on improving his non-breast events for the IM and they are starting to translate into some other solid individual events. I'm looking forward to seeing more progress throughout this season."

Omaha returns to action on Dec. 12 in Sioux Falls to compete against Augustana at Elmen Center Swimming Pool.
