OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Volleyball fell to South Dakota State in a five-set heartbreaker at home on Thursday night.
 
The Mavericks (7-13, 4-7 Summit League) took the first set in dramatic fashion with a 25-23 win over the Jackrabbits (17-3, 11-0). SDSU came back to take the second set 25-14 and established a lead with a 25-18 win in the third. Omaha mounted a comeback in the fourth with a 25-19 win to tie the match. Ultimately, the Jackrabbits took the fifth set 15-11 and with it, they took the match.
 
Tonight's match followed Omaha and South Dakota State's first meeting very closely with the Mavs losing 3-2.
 
The story of the match was senior 
Kali Jurgensmeier (Wahoo, Neb.) and her quest to reach 1,000 kills. Prior to the match, Jurgensmeier needed 27 kills to reach the milestone. The outside hitter recorded a career-high 21 against the Jackrabbits. Jurgensmeier set her previous career-high against South Dakota State when the teams first met this season back in September.
 
Senior 
Morgan DeBow (Overland Park, Kan.) and sophomore Alizabeth Jacobson (Neola, Iowa) were next up in kills with 10 each.
 
Junior 
Emily Huss (Fairbury, Neb.) and Jurgensmeier led the defense with six assisted blocks each.
 
The 2025 Omaha Volleyball season is rapidly approaching its end. The Mavericks will head out on the road to face South Dakota for their next match on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. CT before coming home for their penultimate home match of the season against Denver at noon on Saturday, Nov. 8. Both matches will be shown on the Summit League Network.
