OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Volleyball completed its season sweep of Oral Roberts with a 3-0 win at Baxter Arena Saturday.
The Mavericks (7-12, 4-6 Summit ) got off to a slow start in the first set and the Golden Eagles (2-20, 0-10) took the first few points, but the Mavs bounced right back to win the set 25-21. Omaha only improved from there with a 25-19 win in the second set and a dominant 25-15 win in the third.
The lead bounced around a few times early in the first and second sets, but the Mavs held on to it in the third with zero lead changes and zero tie scores. At one point in the third, Omaha went on a 9-point run to move the score up to 11-1.
The Maverick defense was on fire with 26 assisted blocks for a total of 13 team blocks. Junior
Emily Huss (Fairbury, Neb.) led the effort with nine blocks to bring her season tally up to 96 assisted blocks and 109 total blocks. Huss remains the league leader in both categories and blocks per set at 1.58.
Omaha's offense was led by freshman
Faith Venable (Lincoln, Neb.) with 12 kills to bring her season tally up to 209 in her first season with the Mavericks. Senior
Kali Jurgensmeier's (Wahoo, Neb.) nine kills brought her closer to the 1,000-kill milestone, currently sitting at 973.
The end of the regular-season is on the horizon with only six matches left, three at home and three on the road, until the Summit League Championship in Brookings, S.D. Omaha will stay home to face the Summit League frontrunner Jackrabbits on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. CT.
