Box Score WICHITA, Kan. - Competing in their lone match of the week, the Mavericks fell to Wichita State 6-1 today to move to 1-3 on the year.

After dropping both matches of the doubles round, Omaha went 1-5 in singles play. Mikel Garmendia picked up the lone win for the Mavericks in the final match as he reverse swept his opponent Zaid Al Mashni after falling 7-6 (7-5) in the first set. He then came back to take set two 6-3 before coming out on top in a wild third set that saw him go on to win 10-8.

Christian Trevey almost replicated Garmendia's success in his match against Ilias Worthington, coming back after dropping the first set 7-6 (7-5) by dominating set two with a 6-0 sweep. The third and final set was the closest one all day as he battled hard in a back-and-forth affair, but unlike Garmendia, he could not close it out as he was narrowly edged out 11-9.

Mikhail Korkunov had a couple of strong showings today as well, first playing in the closest doubles match as he and partner Bryan Kuntz were bested 6-4. Then, in his singles match against Vanja Hodzic, he bounced back from a 6-3 loss in the opening set to take the second one 6-4. Ultimately, though, he could not keep up his mid-match momentum and fell 6-3 in the deciding set.

After beginning the season with four straight road contests, the Mavericks finally return to Omaha for their first home match of the year on Sunday, February 2, vs. Pratt CC at 2 p.m.
