Box Score LINCOLN, Neb. - In their third match in four days to open the season, the Mavericks got their first win of 2025 as they topped Bellarmine 4-2 today in a neutral site match hosted in Lincoln.

"I'm so proud of how this team fought today," said Head Coach Hunter Clark, who earned his first career head coaching win. "The message was, "play for each other" and it was without a doubt a full team effort today."

The Mavericks earned their first doubles point of the season as Mikel Garmendia and Pavan Uppu started off the day with a dominant 6-1 win. Mikhail Korkunov and Bryan Kuntz immediately followed up with a 6-4 victory of their own to secure the point.

"We knew the doubles point would be crucial, so it was massive for Pavan and Josu to get us started with a quick win at 2, and then Mischa and Bryan followed suit not long after," remarked Clark.

In singles play, Garmendia followed up his doubles win with his first solo victory of 2025 as he topped his opponent in straight sets (6-2, 6-2). After Bellarmine got on the board with the next singles win, Omaha took a 3-1 lead on the day when Jacob Dubas won his second match in a row after taking a second-set tiebreaker (6-2, 7-6 (4)).

Later, the Mavericks found themselves up 3-2 with Korkunov and Bellarmine's Jack Batchelor locked in a heated battle for the final point. After narrowly falling 7-5 in the first set, Omaha's veteran was in danger of dropping set two as Batchelor got to match point in the tiebreaker. Korkunov fought back, though, saving the point and eventually getting the better of his opponent to tie it at a set apiece with a 7-6 (6) win. He would go on to close it out in the third in final set 6-4 to wrap up Omaha's first team win of the season.

"This was a match we wanted badly after the Tulsa match so to end the weekend with a win like this feels amazing," concluded Clark.

After three meets in the span of four days to open the season, Omaha only has one match next week when they head down to Kansas to face Wichita State on Saturday, January 25 at 1 p.m.
