Box Score NORMAN, Okla. - The Mavericks officially kicked off their 2025 season today against arguably their toughest opponent as they faced No. 10 Oklahoma, going 0-6 in singles play and dropping two of three doubles matches to ultimately fall 7-0.
Facing one of the top teams in the nation, Omaha went up against two ranked singles opponents and a ranked doubles pair.
"I'm very proud of the way we competed today," remarked first year Head Coach Hunter Clark. "To start the year against a top 10 opponent is always tough, but we come in and take a doubles match and stay competitive on the singles side of things as well."
Omaha's lone win today came in the second doubles match, with the pair of sophomore
Mikel Garmendia and redshirt freshman
Pavan Uppu defeating Oklahoma's Asahi Harazaki and Vojtech Petr 6-3.
In the first doubles match, Summit League Player to Watch
Mikhail Korkunov and
Bryan Kuntz faced the No. 100 ranked duo in the country fo Oscar Lacides and Bruno Nhavene and battled hard and still managed to take three games in a 6-3 loss.
Korkunov also had a strong showing in singles play against No. 62 Luis Alvarez. Against one of the country's best, the senior forced a tiebreaker in the opening set, coming up just short 7-6 (7-4) before falling 6-2 in the second set.
Fellow veteran
Ethan Gaubert also took on a ranked opponent, facing No. 73 Lacides and putting up the second best singles performance of the day for the Mavericks in a 6-3, 6-3 loss.
"A lot of positives to take from today heading into the match tomorrow at Tulsa," added Clark.

Opening week continues tomorrow when the team makes the short trip over to face Tulsa on Friday at 10 a.m.
