Kellar Scores in Final Minute as Mavericks Tie NDSU in Conference Opener

OMAHA, Neb. - After wrapping up their record-breaking non-conference run last week, the Mavericks officially began Summit League action tonight with a 1-1 tie vs. North Dakota State after Alyssa Kellar's game-tying goal in the final minute.

Omaha begins conference play at 0-0-1 with an overall record of 6-1-3 while the Bison are 0-0-1 with a 4-4-3 overall mark.

How it Happened

  • Though the Mavericks defense was able to limit the Bison to just two shots in the first half, NDSU's first shot in the 12th minute just managed to get by goalkeeper Maja Baun who made her second career start. Meanwhile, after be held to only one shot in the first 30 minutes, Omaha fired off seven more over the final 15 minutes, but were left empty handed heading into halftime.
  • Remaining in goal, Baun was perfect in the second half as she kept it a one-goal game with pair of crucial saves early on. The biggest defensive moment of the night, though, came in the 82nd minute when a Bison attacked leaped over a diving Baun to attempt to tip the ball in right at the goal line, only for Regan Zimmers to charge in and block the shot at the last possible second.
  • After going scoreless despite eight more shots in the half, it all came down to one last free kick for the Mavericks with less than a minute left on the clock. Reagan Bourgeois sent it to the left side of the box where Zimmers promptly headed it directly to Kellar who headed it right over the Bison keeper to tie it.

Inside the Box

  • With three saves and only one goal allowed tonight, Baun now has 21 saves on the season vs. two goals allowed, giving her a .913 save percentage.
  • Kellar is the first Maverick this year to reach four goals this season, while Bourgeois' assist was her third of the year, marking a new career high.
