Mavericks Drop First Match of 2024 at Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - In the final match of the non-conference schedule, the Mavericks suffered their first loss of the season as they were bested 1-0 by Colorado State on the road. This snaps the team's four-game win streak which ties them with the 2020 squad for the longest winning streak in the Division I era.

Despite the loss, Omaha still ends the first half of the season at 6-1-2, giving the Mavericks their best ever non-conference record as a Division I program. As for the Rams, they will now enter conference play just over. 500 at 4-3-1.

How it Happened

  • After making her first save of the night a minute and a half into the match, Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen did not face another shot on goal until the 30th minute when CSU's Sofia Coulombe found the bottom left corner of the net to score the only goal of the night for either team.
  • For the first time all season, the Mavericks did not record a single shot in the first half of a match. It was not until the 65th minute that Reagan Bourgeois notched the only shot of the night for Omaha.
  • Taking over in goal for the second half, Maja Baun was perfect through the final 45, making four saves to keep it a one-goal game. For a moment it appeared the Rams made it 2-0 off a corner kick in the 56th minute, only for them to be called offsides.

Inside the Box

  • This was Baun's fifth-straight match without allowing a goal. The last time she let one past her was in the team's 2-1 win at Southern Utah on August 22. During this span she has made eight saves.
  • Regan Zimmers was the lone Maverick to play all 90 minutes, doing so for the eighth time this season.
Up Next
With the non-conference schedule concluded, the Mavericks will now get set for the beginning of Summit League competition next week. Conference play starts at home as Omaha hosts North Dakota State next Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by South Dakota State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
