Mavericks Wrap Up Non-Conference Slate at Colorado State

Sep 19, 2024

Leading Off
Entering the final week of non-conference competition, the Mavericks remain undefeated at 6-0-2 as they head to Fort Collins, Colorado to take on Colorado State this Friday at 8 p.m. (CT)/7 p.m. (MT).

Quick Kicks
• Splitting the last week on the road and at home did not slow down the Mavericks at all as they shutout UC Santa Barbara 1-0 on Thursday and returned to Caniglia Field on Sunday to best the MVC's top team Northern Iowa 2-1.
• The goal allowed to UNI was the team's first point given up since August 22 at Southern Utah. It snapped a streak of four straight shutouts for Omaha, thus tying the team for the longest shutout streak in the program's Division I history.
• Omaha's four consecutive wins tie the team with the 2020 squad for the longest win streak in the program's Division I history. Furthermore, the Mavericks' unbeaten streak of eight straight matches is not only their longest such streak in the Division I era, but the team's longest since going 10 straight matches without a loss in 2009.
Lauren Schmidt scored the lone goal at UCSB last week, giving her two on the season on just two shots on goal.
Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen and Maja Baun combined for a season-high seven saves against the Gauchos. One of the top goalkeeper duos in the country, Mia and Maja own a .912 save % and .375 GAA, both of which rank 14th in the NCAA as of Monday.
Regan Zimmers made it back-to-back Summit League Defensive Peak Performer of the Week awards for Omaha as she picked up the honor after playing all 180 minutes in the two victories. She also played a key role offensively against the Panthers, scoring Omaha's first goal in the 76th minute off of a Grace Crockett free kick, before setting up Alyssa Kellar for the game-winner in the 88th. The sixth-year defender now has a new career high in goals, as well as in points with five.
• Crockett's assist was also notable as it was the 14th of her career, tying her with Andrea Dave for the Division I program record.
• After beginning the year with four-straight weeks ranked seventh in the United Soccer Coaches West Region rankings, the Mavericks moved up a spot to sixth overall after their 2-0 performance last week.

Scouting the Colorado State Rams
The Rams enter their final week of non-conference play with a 3-3-1 record and sit in the middle of the Mountain West standings after being shutout 1-0 at home vs. Denver last week. On the season, Colorado State has totaled eight goals (1.14 AVG/G) and allowed six (.86 AVG/G).

Rams to Watch
Former Husker Maggie Altman currently paces CSU with three goals, six points, and 25 shots (11 on goal). The senior defender/midfielder has already played a career high 472 minutes played this season. Mia Massey is right behind Altman with two goals on four shots on goal.

Avery Vander Ven, now in her second year with Colorado State after transferring from Texas, leads the team with two assists and is one of four Rams to have played all 630 minutes this season.

Shayna Ross has been the only goalkeeper used by Colorado State this season. She has posted a shutout in three out of seven games so far and allowed only a single goal in each of the last three matches. Overall Ross has made 17 saves (.739 save%) and owns a .86 GAA.
