OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha volleyball (1-7) faces three final tests in Kansas before opening defense of the Summit league crown. The Mavericks begin the Shocker Classic Thursday at 2 p.m. CT against Northern Colorado (8-2) with matches against Cal Poly (5-3) at 2 p.m. Friday and host Wichita State (3-6) at 4 p.m. Saturday. All matches will be telecast on ESPN+.
The Mavericks are coming off a competitive west coast swing that included their first win of the season, a five set comeback win over UC Santa Barbara in the Pepperdine Classic.
On the season, the Mavericks are led on the attack by
Kali Jurgensmeier (85 kills) and
McKenna Ruch (77 kills) and
Shayla McCormick (65 kills). McCormick is just 21 kills shy of joining Omaha's 1,000 career kills club. She has already passed one milestone this season with 1,027 career digs. McCormick leads the team with 80 digs.
Erica Fava has 79 digs.
Ivy Leuck leads the Mavericks with 200 assists.
Against Northern Colorado from the Big Sky conference leads the all-time series against the Mavericks (12-23), with Omaha's last win coming two seasons ago 3-2 in Omaha (9/3/22). The Mavericks have never faced Cal Poly from the Big West Conference. They are 1-2 all-time against Wichita State of the American Conference, the last win also coming two seasons ago, a 3-1 win in Omaha (9/1/22).
