Mavericks Score Two in the Final 15 to Beat UNI

OMAHA, Neb. - In their final home non-conference match of the season, the Mavericks roared back from a 1-0 deficit against Northern Iowa with 15 minutes left to play as they took down the MVC's top squad 2-1 today.

Still undefeated with just one non-conference match left to play, Omaha is now 6-0-2 on the year, while the Panthers see their four-game winning streak end as they are now 5-2-1.

How it Happened

  • After a quiet first 30 minutes that saw just two total shots, the Panthers broke the stalemate as Olivia Bohl dropped one in off of a free kick. This goal snapped Omaha's four-game shutout streak, marking the first time the team allowed a goal since August 22 at Southern Utah.
  • The second half started out much like the first, with neither team able to get much going on offense through 30 minutes. However, with just under 15 minutes left to play, a UNI foul set up Grace Crockett to take a free kick from the right side where she connected with Regan Zimmers who headed it in to tie up the match 1-1. The assist for Crockett was the 14th of her career, tying her with Andrea Dave for the Division I program record.
  • With the clock winding down, Omaha had one last chance to prevent the tie, earning a corner kick with less than three minutes remaining. Zimmers took the initial shot and rung it off the cross bar. The ball then rebounded directly to Alyssa Kellar who sent the one-timer past the goalie to give the Mavericks the lead for good.

Inside the Box

  • Both of Zimmers' goals this season have come via headers off of free kicks. She now has two goals and one assist, giving the sixth-year defender a new career high in goals, as well as in points with five.
