Mavericks Record Fourth Consecutive Shutout With 1-0 Win Over UCSB

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Mavericks just keep on winning as they shut down UC Santa Barbara 1-0 on the road tonight for their fourth consecutive shutout. The team is now tied with the 2020 and 2022 squads for the most consecutive shutouts in the Division I era.

Omaha remains undefeated at 5-0-2 on the season, while the Gauchos drop to 1-3-4. The Mavericks are now 8-1-6 in their last 15 matches dating back to last year.

How it Happened

  • Once again the Mavericks wasted no time getting on the board as a deep pass from Marissa Gohr was mishandled by a Gauchos defender, allowing Lauren Schmidt to come up with the steal and beat the goalie in a one-on-one to put Omaha in front 1-0 less than six minutes in.
  • After going the first 27 minutes without save opportunity, Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen made faced a flurry of shots over the next eight minutes, making four saves to keep UCSB off the board.
  • The Gauchos would have three more shots on goal in the second half, but Maja Baun, now in goal, made easy work of all three to keep the shutout intact.

Inside the Box

  • Schmidt's goal was the second of the season and her career. Both goals have come on her only two shots on goal this season.
  • Olesen and Baun combined for seven saves tonight, the most total saves by the Mavericks in a game this season. Baun has yet to allow a goal in six matches to start her career, while Olesen has now been a part of 24 shutouts in her career.
  • The trio of Cece Behrens, Regan Zimmers, and Grace Ostergaard once again led Omaha's vaunted defense with all three playing the full 90 minutes.
