Schmidt's First Career Goal Lifts Mavericks Past Lindenwood

Omaha, Neb. - The Mavericks took an early lead in the fourth minute of the match and never looked back as they shutout Lindenwood 2-0 to close out opening weekend.

Omaha begins its 2024 season at 1-0-1, while the Lions fall to 1-1-0.

How it Happened

  • Three and a half minutes into the match, Reagan Bourgeois connected with Marissa Gohr at midfield who immediately sent one deep to Lauren Schmidt on the edge of the box. Outrunning the lone Lions defender on her, Schmidt quickly fired one past the out of position goalkeeper to put Omaha up for good.

  • 12 minutes later, Gohr again delivered a perfect pass into the box as she found Alyssa Kellar directly in front of the goal where she fired one past the diving goalie and into the left side of the net to make it 2-0.

  • The Mavericks kept the ball in Lindenwood's zone for almost the entire half as the Lions only managed a single shot through the first 45.

  • Omaha continued to lock down Lindenwood in the second half, limiting them to just four more shots.

  • Likewise, Bourgeois now has an assist in both matches so far, already tying her tally from each of the last two seasons.
