Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Omaha Mavericks men's tennis squad had their eight-match winning streak snapped at eight this weekend.

In a tight battle, the Mavericks dropped their weekend opener 4-3 to Illinois State yesterday afternoon. Despite the Mavericks jumping out to an early 1-0 lead grabbing the doubles point, Illinois State was able to rattle off four singles victories to take the match. The pairings of Mikhail Korkunov/Bryan Kuntz and Mikel Garmendia/Ethan Gaubert helped acquire the doubles point. They won their matches 7-6 and 6-1, respectively.

In singles, the Mavericks fought until the end but came up just short. Bryan Kuntz won in three sets while Ethan Gaubert downed his opponent 6-1, 6-2.

Looking to bounce back today against Northern Illinois, Omaha was once again bested for the second time on the weekend. Northern Illinois defeated the Mavericks 4-1 with the final two singles matches finishing incomplete. Quintan Van Wijk grabbed the Mavericks lone point on the afternoon. He fell behind in the first set but rallied won his match in three sets.

The Mavericks will break for a bit before heading down to Texas to play in a trio of matches from March 11-13.
