ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Playing their one and only scheduled doubleheader of the season, Omaha kicked off a four-game weekend with a 6-0 loss against Bradley in game one before, getting walked off in an 8-7 loss to host Lindenwood in game two.
Omaha is now 0-8 on the year, while the Braves (2-5) and Lions (2-6) each pick up their second win.
Game 1 (vs. Bradley)
Game one started out as a textbook pitchers' duel as
Caleb Riedel and Noah Edders each held the opposition scoreless through three and a half innings. Riedel did not allow a hit until a two-out single in the bottom of the fourth, at which point he found himself with the bases loaded and ultimately surrendered the first two runs of the day on a single to Bean Durbin. Bradley's two-out rally continued with another run after a wild pitch from Riedel.
Omaha had a chance to get even in the top of the fifth after getting runners in the corners with one out, only for Edders to retire the next two Mavericks. In the fifth,
Reed Scott came out of the bullpen for the Mavericks and proceeded to fire two shutout innings without allowing a hit. In the seventh,
Cooper Prososki would keep it a three-run game after entering with a two-out bases-loaded jam and striking out his only batter.
Omaha would go on to lose game 1 as the Braves tacked on three more runs in the eighth and sent Brayden Marks in to relieve Edders after eight scoreless to complete the shutout in the ninth.
Game 2 (at Lindenwood)
Omaha wasted no time getting started in game two as the first four Mavericks all reached base to start the day, capped off by a two-run double from
Tyler Bishop.
Grant Sommers and
Haiden Hunt would follow up with a pair of sac flies to quickly make it 4-0 in the top of the first. Omaha would get a chance to add to their lead in the third and fourth after a triple from
Trent Burkhalter and a double from
Zach Lechnir, but neither would score.
On the mound,
Charlie Bell held the Lions to scoreless on one hit through the first three innings. In the fourth, though, he would surrender the lead after giving up five runs on five hits.
Luke Gainer would come in and relieve Bell in the fifth, retiring the side in order with a couple of swinging strikeouts.
Trailing 5-4, Omaha managed to tie the game up in the seventh as
Henry Zipay got things started with a leadoff single before coming around to score on Bishop's third hit and third RBI of the game. Then, in the top of the eighth,
Matt Goetzmann came up with his biggest hit of the season as he knocked a two-run double to put Omaha back on top 7-5.
Back on the mound, Gainer continued to dominate, holding the Lions scoreless through the eighth inning and racking up five strikeouts while only allowing two hits. However, Omaha's lead soon got away from them in the bottom of the ninth. With runners at second and third with two outs, Bryson Arnette tied it up with a single to right, before Jack Meyer walked it off two batters later.

With two more scoreless innings in game one, Scott now has five-straight scoreless innings across three separate outings.
Burkhalter's triple in game two was the first by a Maverick this year.
