ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Despite another strong day for the Mavericks bullpen, Omaha was not able to get going on offense as the team was swept by Bradley after today's 5-1 loss.
Omaha remains winless to start its season and is now 0-9, while Bradley wins its second straight to improve to 3-5.
Innings 1-3
Brayden Curtis had an easy first inning on the mound, ending the inning with his first strikeout as
Cardel Dick gunned down the runner trying to steal second. Dick would throw out his second runner in as many innings to help Curtis get through a scoreless second. In the third, however, four walks and a balk facilitated a Braves rally that saw them take a 4-0 lead.
Innings 4-6
Coming in to relieve Curtis,
Reed Scott made his second appearance of the series and worked 1.2 scoreless innings, before
Cooper Prososki came in to get the final out of the fifth and stranded three Braves. Bradley would get another run in the sixth, though, after a two-out rally.
Omaha managed to get on the board in the bottom of the sixth after
Trent Burkhalter was hit by a pitch and
Grant Sommers picked up his second single of the day. Both runners advanced to second and third on a wild pitch, allowing
Henry Zipay to drive in Burkhalter on an RBI groundout to make it 5-1.
Innings 7-9
Joe Hackmann, making his season debut, continued the Maverick bullpen's strong performance with two scoreless innings in the seventh in eighth.
Gage Ingram followed with his first scoreless outing as a Maverick in the ninth, striking out the first two batters he faced.
In the bottom of the ninth,
Drew Lechnir and
Matt Goetzmann both walked to give Omaha some late life, but it was not enough to stoke a rally as Omaha's bats were silenced to end the game.
Inside the Box Score
Goetzmann's triple in the third inning was his first since March 25, 2023 vs. North Dakota State.
Dick is the first Mavericks catcher this year to throw out multiple runners in a single game.
