Mavericks Fall to Kansas City at Home

Omaha, Neb. – The Omaha Mavericks fell to the Kansas City Roos Saturday, 72-56
 
Omaha falls to a 6-22 overall on the season and is now 2-13 in conference play. 

Leaders For Omaha
Omaha was led today by Polina Nikulochkina with 11 points who went 4-of-9 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Morgann Gardner led the Mavericks in assists with seven. 
 
Leaders for Kansas City
Alayna Contreras and Tamia Ugass each put up a team-high 15 points. Dominique Phillips led with nine assists and Lisa Thomas notched five assists. 

Team Stats
Omaha was outshot on the field 32% (16-of-50) to 44.1% (30-of-68). They were also just outshot from the arc going 23.5% (4-of-17) to 30% (3-of-10). The Mavericks led on the free throw line, going 76.9% (20-of-26) to 64.3% (9-of-14). 

Inside the First Quarter
Omaha had a hot start with a three-point jumper from Morgann Gardner just 12 seconds in after winning tipoff. They then extended the opening lead to 5-0 after Cave made a driving layup. The Mavericks fell behind but kept close.

The Roos took the lead with an eight-point scoring run to lead 12-8. The Roos gave up the lead at 0:05 with a jumper bit a KC came back with a layup and one to pull ahead 19-17 at the end of the first. 

Inside the Second Quarter
The Mavericks had a tough go in the second, only scoring nine points. Omaha went 4-of-4 from the line accounting for nearly half of the quarter's points. 

Kansas City had their most prominent quart scoring 21 points. From the field they shot 8-of-15 and made seven free throws. 

Inside the Third Quarter
The Mavericks had another 17-point quarter, going 6-of-16 from the field and 4-of-7 free throws. 

The Roos put up one more point than Omaha in the third. Their 18 points came from eight field goals and one free throw. The Roos ran into turnover trouble, making six turnovers and UNO made sure to capitalize on it scoring eight off the turnovers.  

 Inside the Fourth Quarter
The Mavericks were bringing the heat in the fourth but just couldn't get shots to fall. Omaha went 2-of-9 from the field. Nine of the Maverick's 13 points in the fourth came from the free-throw line. 

The Roos kept the ball on lock only turning it over once. They shot 6-of-16 from the field. The Roos polished off the win with a final layup and one. To make it a 16-point game.

The Mavericks will close out the regular season Thursday, Feb. 29 at 7 p.m. for senior night against St. Thomas.
