Mavericks Split Day Two at Lion Invitational

Commerce, TX- The Omaha Mavericks split the day, winning game one against Abilene Christian 8-1 but falling to Tarleton State 4-3. 

The Mavericks improve to a  9-6 overall record on the campaign.  

Game One: Omaha 8, Abilene Christian 1
How It Happened

    - Omaha once again had a show-stopping first inning.
    - Lynsey Tucker, the lead-off batter, opened up the game with a homer on a 1-0 count. 
    - Ava Rongisch hit a grounder to first where the first baseman wasn't able to make a play which allowed Sydney Thomason to score. 
    - Sydney Ross and Alex Olson had back-to-back singles, each sending in a runner, making it 4-0 at the end of the first. 
    - ACU scored one run in the second off a single to third. 
    - In the second, Emma Durr stole second making the catcher throw down. With the ball no longer at home, Maggie O'Brien was able to run in. making it 5-1. 
    - The third brought two more runs for the Mavericks. Ross notched another RBI with a double to right center sending in Sammy Schmidt, making it 6-1. Olson, on a fielding error to third, notched an RBI after scoring Ross. 
    - Ross had another double in the fourth to send in Rongisch for the eighth run. 
    
Game Notes
    - Ross had a team-high RBIs off three hits in her three at-bats. Ross also led the team with six putouts. 
    - Rongisch scored a team-high two runs and had two hits in four at-bats. 
    - Kamryn Meyer pitched 4.1 innings, only allowing two hits and one run. In the circle today she made six strikeouts. 
    - Relieving Meyer was Tatum Montelongo who pitched the remaining 2.2 innings. Montelongo only allowed one hit and one walk while making two strikeouts. 

Game Two: Omaha 3, Tarleton State 4 
How It Happened

    - The second game started off slow. Both teams were held scoreless for the first three innings. 
    - Ross started off the scoring with a double to left on a 0-2 count, sending in Rongisch to make it 1-0.
    - Tucker hit the gap in center to send both Olson and Ross home making it 3-1. 
    - In the bottom of the fourth, Tarleton scored two off a double to center making it a 3-2 game. 
    - TSU tied it up in the fifth with another double to right. 
    - In the bottom of the seventh, Tarleton's double downed to left scoring their fourth run to finish the game ahead of the Mavericks. 

Game Notes
    - Three Mavericks scored runs including Rongisch, Ross, and Olson. 
    - Ross notched the only RBI of the game.
    - Sydney Nuismer pitched 4.1 innings. She only allowed three hits and three runs, making two strikeouts. 
    - Meyer relieved her for 2 innings, allowing five hits and two walks. In nine batters she made one strikeout. 
    - Haley Wilwerding led the team with eight putouts. 
    
Up Next
The Mavericks will finish up the Lion Invitational tomorrow Sunday, Feb. 25 at 9 a.m. where they will take on Abilene Christian once again.
