Mavericks Shutout Opponents on Day One of Lion Invitational

Commerce, TX- The Omaha Mavericks fell to both No. 15 Arkansas 5-2 and RV Arizona 8-0 during the final day of the tournament. 

The Mavericks now fall to a 6-5 overall record on the campaign.  

Game One: Omaha 9, Tarleton St. 0
How It Happened

    - The Mavericks had an explosive first inning, scoring seven to open the game. 
    - Lynsey Tucker and Maggie O'Brien had back-to-back singles then advanced to third and second respectively on a wild pitch. Sydney Thomason was walked, loading the bases.
    - Emma Durr also took the walk to send in Tucker. 
    - With bases still loaded and in her first at-bat of the season, Ava Ronginsch singled to right field, scoring in O'Brien, making it 2-0. 
    - With Ronginsch and Durr on second and third, Sydney Ross singled to right field and notched two RBIs. 
    - Marra Cramer scored two runs with a hit to the right-field line, making it a 6-0 game in the top of the first. 
    - O'Brien singled a hit to left field, sending in Cramer for the Maverick's seventh run of the inning. 
    - The first batter in the bottom of the first attempted a bunt, but Thomason made a diving catch down the line making the out. 
    - The bottom of the first was quick after Kamryn Meyer followed up the diving catch with a K and Cramer caught a fly ball to center. 
    - Tarleton didn't have their first hit until the bottom of the fifth where they singled to center. 
    - With a runner on first, the Tarleton State's batter hit a line drive to second. Tucker caught the catch and made the double play at first as the runner was already on their way to second. 
    - In the bottom of the sixth, Cramer found her way to first with a single to third. Tucker, who was next at-bat, hit a triple to left field, scoring Cramer in for the ninth and final run. 

Game Notes
    - Kamryn Meyer pitched five of the six innings, only allowing two hits and one walk. Meyer made three strikeouts and zero errors. 
    - Tatum Montelongo stepped in the circle for the final inning where she made one strikeout and only allowed one hit. 
    - Cramer had a solid day with two runs, two hits, and two RBIs in her three at-bats. In the outfield, she made a team-high four putouts. 
    - Six additional Mavericks scored runs including O'Brien, Durr, Rongisch, Sammy Schmidt, and Ross who all recorded one run. Tucker joined Cramer with two runs. 
    

Game Two: Omaha 7, Texas A&M Commerce 0 
How It Happened

    - The Mavericks had another explosive first scoring four. 
    - The first run of the game was scored by Thomason after Ross hit a single to third base with bases loaded. 
    - Haley Wilwerding hit a three-run triple to right field to score in Ross, Rongisch and Durr.
    - Omaha scored another run in the second after O'Brien hit a double to center sending in Tucker. 
    - Thomason flied out to left field but sent O'Brien home for the Maverick's sixth run. 
    - The bottom of the fourth was Omaha's third 1-2-3 inning keeping the score 6-0. 
    - The final run for Omaha was scored after Cramer hit a double to center, sending in Ross. 
    
Game Notes
    - Sydney Nuismer pitched five innings, only allowing three hits. She allowed no runs, no walks, and had no errors in addition to her five strikeouts. 
    - Abby Flanagan and Montelongo each pitched one inning, neither allowing a hit. Flanagan had one strikeout in her three batters. 
    - Haley Wilwerding had a career-high three RBIs. In her three at bats, she had two hits and one triple. Wilwerding also had a team-high 10 putouts. 
    - Ross had a team-high two runs. 
    
Up Next
The Mavericks will continue action tomorrow with their first game at 9 a.m. against Abilene Christian and another battle against Tarleton State at 2 p.m.
