Mavericks to Battle Intracity Rival Creighton, Look to Extend Winning Streak

The Omaha Mavericks Men's Tennis looks to extend their seven match winning streak tomorrow night when they host intracity rival, Creighton.

The 9-4 Mavericks are coming off a pair of wins over Marquette and Eastern Illinois. Omaha opened the weekend with a clean sweep of Marquette, defeating the Golden Eagles 7-0.

In doubles, Ryoma Mishiro/Quintan Van Wijk and Ethan Gaubert/Mikel Garmendia got things started for the Mavericks to secure the first point of the afternoon. The pairings won 6-4 and 6-2, respectively.

In singles, Ryoma MishiroQuintan Van WijkMikhail KorkunovMikel Garmendia and Christian Trevey all won in straight sets. Bryan Kuntz came from one set down to secure his eighth singles win of the campaign. Van Wijk and Kuntz extend their singles winning streak to seven matches with their wins.

Against EIU, the Mavericks once again jumped out to an early 1-0 lead taking the doubles point. Mishiro and Korkunov won the first doubles match 7-6. Aiding in securing the win, Gaubert and Garmendia won 6-4 while the third doubles match was won via walkover.

Mishiro, Korkunov and Gabe Whinston won in straight sets to get the Mavericks to the magic number four to accomplish a perfect 2-0 weekend. 

Mishiro wasn named Summit League Perfomer of the Week after going 4-0 on the weekend to help the Mavericks take the weekend.

Creighton comes into the match with a 7-3 record. They're 2-3 on the road this season.

The Mavericks and Bluejays will get underway tomorrow night from Miracle Hill Tennis Center at 7:00 p.m.
