Omaha, Neb. – The Omaha Mavericks fell to South Dakota State 79-57, who is undefeated in conference play and leads the Summit.
Omaha falls to a 6-20 overall on the season and is now 2-11 in conference play.
Leaders For Omaha
Grace Cave led the Mavericks with 25 points, going 7-of-13 from the field, 4-of-7 from the arc, and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Cave accounted for nearly half of Omaha's points and had a team-high six steals.
Cora Olsen led the Mavericks with five rebounds and
Katie Keitges had a team-high four assists.
Leaders for South Dakota State
Mesa Byom scored a 20-point 10-rebound double-double, pacing the Jackrabbits in rebounds. Brooklyn Meyer had a team-high 22 points, five assists, and three steals.
Team Stats
Omaha was outshot 33.3% (19-of-57) to 52.6% (30-of-57) from the field. On the arc, the Mavericks out shot SDSU 28.6% (6-of-21) to 25% (4-of-16). Omaha was also outshot on the free throw line 81.3% (13-of-16) to 83.3% (15-of-18).
Inside the First Quarter
Omaha had a slow start to the game.
Morgann Gardner hit the first basket for the Mavericks at 7:00. The Mavericks trailed behind the Jackrabbits through the first and at one point were down by nine. At 1:18 Omaha was down by eight and go the score within one at the end of the quarter after a three-pointer by Cave.
SDSU got an early 5-0 lead from the start and maintained that lead through the quarter. Their best scoring run came at 3:42 when they scored six straight points.
Inside the Second Quarter
A fast break layup by
Kennedi Grant kept the Mavericks within one at 8:56. The Mavericks were struggling from the arc in the second going 0-of-4 and from the field going 6-of-17. Omaha ran into foul trouble with five in the second, giving up six points to SDSU on the line.
The Jackrabbits had their biggest lead of 11 at with 1:18 remaining in the half. Their 20-point quarter was paced by Mesa Byom with nine points.
Inside the Third Quarter
Omaha had their lowest scoring quarter only putting up nine points in the third. The Mavericks were unable to score a basket until 6:51. Omaha had six turnovers and was called for five fouls.
SDSU had a 10-point scoring run a 2:36 to put them up by 19 and just one possession later a three gave them a 21-point lead. The SDUS defense kept Omaha to just 2-of-12 field goals and 1-of-4 three-pointers.
Inside the Fourth Quarter
Omaha kept pace with the Jackrabbits scoring 17 and holding them to 20. Cave had another six points from two three-pointers and made one steal.
The Jackrabbits had another 10-point scoring run to give them a 26-point lead, making it their biggest of the game.
