Mavericks Split Day Two of Bear Down Tournament

Tucson, AZ- The Omaha Mavericks split day two another day at the Bear Down Tournament, winning their morning game against Long Beach State 7-5, but falling to #15 Arkansas 9-2. 

The Mavericks now improve to a 6-3 overall record on the campaign.  

Game One: Omaha 7, Long Beach State 5
How It Happened

    - The Beach got off to a strong start scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. With loaded bases back-to-back batters were walked, scoring Long Beach State an unearned run making it 2-0. ON a single to left field two more runners scored making it 4-0. 
    - In the top of the 2nd, Sydney Ross was hit by a pitch and then stole second on a wild pitch. Haley Wilwerding flied out to left but Ross, from second, scored the Maverick's first run. 
    - Sammy Schmidt scored Omaha's second run from third on a wild pitch behind the plate. 
    - With Alex Olson on third from a past ball, she scored on Lynsey Tucker's double to right field. 
    - Emma Durr was at bat with Sydney Thomason and Maggie O'Brien on base. Durr hit a homer to left field making it a 7-4 game. 
    - In the bottom of the third, Long Beach scored their fifth run with a walk while bases were loaded. 

Game Notes
    - Durr scored her first home run of the season. In four at-bats, she scored one run and had two hits and three RBIs. On the defensive side, Durr also had three putouts. 
    - Maggie O'Brien had a team-high six putouts. In five at-bats, O'Brien had one hit and scored one run. 
    - Lynsey Tucker recorded one RBI with her double and scored one run. 
    - On the mound, Sydney Nuismer pitched 6.2 innings, notching two strikeouts, while only allowing six hits. 
    

Game Two: Omaha 2, Arkansas 9 
How It Happened

    - Omaha had an early two-run lead in the first after Durr and Tucker scored on Ross's double to left. 
    - In the second, the Razorbacks made it a one-run game after hitting a homer to center. 
    - Arkansas tied it up in the fourth with a run off a pop-up to center field. 
    - The Razorbacks then took the lead 5-2, with a three-run homer to left field in the fourth. 
    - Tatum Montelongo relieved Kamryn Meyer from the mound in the top of the sixth. In a quick one-two-three inning, all three batters were out on pop-ups. 
    - Arkansas scored their final four runs in the seventh making it a 9-2 final decision. 
    
Game Notes
    - Kamryn Meyer pitched five innings, making three strikeouts and only allowing one walk. 
    - Tucker and Durr each had one hit and scored one run. 
    - Sydney Ross recorded two RBIs.
    - Alex Olson had a team-high five putouts. 

Up Next
The Mavericks will close out the Bear Down Tournament with another game against #15 Arkansas at 10 a.m. and a rematch with Arizona at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow.
