Mavericks Split First Day of Bear Down Tournament

Tucson, AZ- The Omaha Mavericks split day one of the Bear Down Tournament, shutting out Long Beach State 3-0 in game one but falling 13-2 to RV Arizona. Sydney Thomason boosted the Mavericks to victory in game one with two homers and three RBIs.  

The Mavericks now improve to a 5-2 overall record on the campaign.  

Game One: Omaha 3, Long Beach State 0
How It Happened
    - Sydney Thomason wasted no time getting the Mavericks on the board. In the top of the first, Thomason sent a rocket to left field scoring the first run of the day. 
    - In both the bottom of the first and second, Kamryn Meyer stuck out two batter in each. 
    - In the top of the sixth, Maggie O'Brien was walked with two outs. At bat next was Thomason with two outs. With a 3-1 count, Thomason sniped another homer to left field making it a 3-0 contest. 
    - Meyer stick out the final batter to close out the game in a shutout. 

Game Notes
    - Thomason had a season high two home runs and three RBIs
    - Kamryn Meyer had her first full 7-inning shutout with seven strikeouts, while only allowing two hits. 
    - Alex Olson had one hit and O'Brien recorded one run. 
    
Game Two: Omaha 2, Arizona 13 
How It Happened
    - Omaha had another fast start to the game. Lynsey Tucker made it to first on a walk. O'Brien grounded out shortstop by advancing Tucker to second. Thomason then grounded out to third but Tucked advanced to third. Emma Durr was next at bat where she hit a single to second and scored Tucker in.
    -  Arizona responded back in the bottom of the fourth with four runs. The Wildcats had five hits for four runs. 
    - Arizona was explosive with seven runs in the bottom of the second off seven runs. After their seven-run inning, the Wildcats were up 11-1. 
    - In the top of the third, Tucker singled up the middle. During O'Brien's at bat she doubled to center where she advanced Tucker to third. Tucker scored the Maverick's second run on a pass ball behind the plate. 
    - Arizona notched another two runs in the bottom of the third, making it 13-2. 
    -  Freshman Tatum Montelongo stepped in at the bottom of the fourth, striking out the last two batters. 
    - After not being able to score any more runs in the fifth, the Wildcats won 13-2 in five innings off the run rule. 
    
Game Notes
    - Tatum Montelongo pitched one inning recording two strikeouts and only one hit. 
    - Emma Durr record her first RBI of the season.
    - Tucker scored the two runs of the game, with one being off a stolen base. 

Up Next
The Mavericks will play the Long Beach State at 10 a.m. and #15 Arkansas at 12:30 p.m. for round two of the Bear Down Tournament.
