Box Score The Omaha Mavericks Men's Tennis team extended their winning streak to four games with their 4-3 victory over Gonzaga this afternoon. The win keeps the Mavericks perfect at home, improving to 4-0 at Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
Omaha jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after capturing the important first doubles point. The pairings of
Ryoma Mishiro/
Quintan Van Wijk and
Ethan Gaubert/
Mikel Garmendia secured wins in their matches to give the Mavericks the opening point.
In singles,
Bryan Kuntz won his team-best sixth singles match in straight sets to get the Mavericks their second point.
Quintan Van Wijk battled to a three set victory for the third point and then in the final match of the day,
Ethan Gaubert also won a three set thriller to clinch the victory.
"I'm really proud of the guys for their fight and focus today. We started with more energy than them in doubles and that's what helped us get the point," head coach Matt Barlow said. "With four first sets and a quick finish from
Bryan Kuntz, that helped us continue that momentum. Van Wijk played a phenomenal third set to give us a chance to clinch. We'd want no other guy than
Ethan Gaubert to close us out, he's so collected and fit. It was great to watch his training pay off and get the clinch for the team. We'll celebrate this for about and hour and then get ready for a tough Montana state team tomorrow."
The 6-4 Mavericks will wrap up their four-match homestand tomorrow afternoon when thet take on Montana State at 1:00 p.m. from Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
