Leading Off
With just one match left in the regular season, the Mavericks (9-2-5, 3-1-3) will look to secure a first-round bye in the Summit League Tournament when they close things out at Kansas City (7-7-3, 1-6-0) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Quick Kicks
• Omaha will need some outside help to secure the No. 2 seed and trip straight to the semifinals, as the Mavericks need beat Kansas City, Denver to lose and South Dakota State to lose or tie.
• Last week, the Mavericks picked up a pair of 1-1 ties at Denver and Oral Roberts, extending the team's unbeaten streak to five-straight matches.
• Scoring her first career goal a week prior,
Meg Nemnich came through again for Omaha against Denver with the game-tying goal. Behrens' goal was also her second of the season and came with less than three minutes to go in the match.
•
Mia Reedtz Rehde Olesen made six more saves last week, bringing her career total to 175. This is the second highest total by any Maverick in the Division I era, trailing only Haley Shelton's (2012-16) 214.
• Following these two ties, Omaha made it back into the United Soccer Coaches West Region Top 10 poll, being picked ninth right behind SDSU.
• Coming into the regular season finale, the Mavericks still boast the top defense in the league with only 11 goals allowed, 0.69 goals per game, and a .864 save percentage. As of October 21, this save percentage ranks 12th in the nation.
•
Marissa Gohr and
Alyssa Kellar have been Omaha's top offensive threats all season, entering this game with 13 points each. Gohr's four goals, five assists, and 13 points are all career highs, with her assists and points totals each placing in the Summit League top 10, while Kellar now has 10 goals, eight assists, and 28 points in her first two seasons in Omaha.
• Sunday's match also represents the last chance for the Mavericks to reach 10 wins for the first time in the Division I era.
Scouting the Kansas City Roos
The Roos will be playing their final match of the season on Sunday as they currently sit in last place in the conference and will not qualify for the Summit League Tournament at 7-7-3 with a 1-6 league record. As a team, Kansas City ranks seventh in the league in both scoring (1.235 goals per game) and goals allowed (1.00 per game).
Roos to Watch
Rookie forward Adriana Benassi has been Kansas City's top scorer this year, leading the team with five goals and 11 points. She already has two matches this year with two goals scored, doing so against Emporia State and Northern Colorado.
Leading the offense along with Benassi are veterans Madison Page and Kayda Kamolz who have totaled 11 and nine points, respectively. Like the freshman, Page has scored two game-winning goals for the Roos, while Kamolz is tied for second in the league with five assists.
Goalkeepers Riley Moore and Maddie Sibbing have made seven and 10 starts each in goal this year, with the former making eight saves and allowing six goals (.571 SV%), and the latter making 49 saves and allowed 11 goals (.817 SV%). Sibbing's save percentage ranks second in the league, while her 1.142 GAA and 49 saves both place in the top five as well.
Series History
Omaha holds a 5-2-2 edge in the all-time series against the Roos, with all nine matches coming in the Division I era. Last year, the Mavericks came out on top 3-2 with
Cece Behrens,
Marissa Gohr, and
Emilie Erland all scoring a goal.
