Men's Tennis Battles Wichita State Hard, Fall Just Short

Jan 26, 2024

Box Score The Omaha Men's Tennis Team came up just short in today's duel against Wichita State. Omaha fell 3-4 to the Shockers earlier this afternoon.

"We fought hard in the singles and had many chances to extend the match and make it even closer today, but just couldn't get to the finish line," head coach Matt Barlow said. "Hoping we can learn and make a few adjustments so we can compete even better in Utah next week."

Mikhail Korkunov, Ethan Gaubert and Mikel Garmendia sealed singles victories for the Mavericks this afternoon. Korkunov registered his first singles victory of the season defeating his opponent in straight sets 7-5, 6-4.

"It was a good 1st singles win for Misha Korkunov, he has been playing better and better each match," Barlow added.

Gaubert earned his fourth singles victory of the campaign going 7(10)-6(8), 6-4 while Garmendia went three sets to take his singles match 6-0, 2-6, 6-4.
