The Omaha Mavericks men's tennis squad makes their 2024 home debut tomorrow night when they take on Air Force. Omaha enters this weekend 1-1.
"First home match of the year is always a fun experience. Air Force is bringing in a very strong team that always competes hard, so I'm sure it'll be a close one," Head Coach Matt Barlow said.
Omaha went 1-1 in their two season opening matches last weekend. They fell the first night 6-1 to Oklahoma State and then responded the following morning by downing the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, 5-2. After the Mavericks take on Air Force, Omaha hops on the road to Lincoln to take on interstate rival, Nebraska on Sunday.
"Sunday we travel to Lincoln for the annual huskers match. This is the best team they've had since I've been at Omaha, but I believe if we show up, we can beat anyone," Barlow said.
Earlier this week, Omaha sophomore racket
Ethan Gaubert was named the Summit League Men's Tennis Performer of the Week. Gaubert went 3-1 last weekend including a perfect 2-0 in singles play. The weekly award was the first of Gaubert's career.
Friday's match gets underway at 6:00 p.m. from Miracle Hills Tennis Center while first serve on Sunday is 11:00 a.m.
