Mavericks Fall to Golden Eagles at Caniglia

Omaha, Neb.— The Mavericks lost their first match of Summit League play, falling 2-1 to the Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts on Thursday. 

Omaha's record moves to 4-4-3 with the loss and 1-1-1 in conference play. 

How it Happened 

  • Marissa Gohr tried to spark the Omaha offense just three minutes into the game with a shot that was saved by the ORU keeper Alexa Riefer. 

  • Emma Konsmo responded with her first save in the seventh minute. 

  • Grace Ostergaard sent a shot on goal in the ninth minute that was deflected and caught by Riefer right on the goal line. 

  • The Mavericks and Golden Eagles continued to trade shot attempts until the 41st minute, when ORU's Kingsbury beat Konsmo to give Oral Roberts' the first lead of the game. (0-1) 

  • Konsmo made another tough save right before halftime to send the Mavericks into the locker room trailing by one. 

  • Early in the second half, ORU would net their second goal of the game, doubling its lead off a corner kick. (0-2) 

  • In the 81st minute, Grace Crockett took a free kick, finding Marissa Gohr who walked into the box and scored her third goal of the season. Crockett notched her team-high fourth assist of the year. (1-2) 

  • The Mavericks could not tie the game as it would end 2-1 in favor of the Golden Eagles.

  • Omaha outshot Oral Roberts 13-9, but the Golden Eagles led the Mavericks 7-3 in shots on goal.
