Omaha Kicks Off Conference Play In North Dakota

LEADING OFF 

The Mavericks went 3-3-2 in non-conference play this season after a 2-1 victory over Oklahoma on Sunday, Sept. 17. Omaha begins Summit League play on the road with a match against the Fighting Hawks of North Dakota on Thursday, Sept. 21. Kickoff from Grand Forks, N.D., is scheduled for 3 p.m. 

QUICK KICKS 

  • The Mavericks wrapped up non-conference action with a 2-1 win over the Sooners on Sunday. Sophia Green netted her sixth goal of the season, and Maggie Gundersen's game-winning goal was the first of her career. 

  • The victory was the first for the Mavericks on a Sunday this season. Prior to the match, Omaha was 0-3-1 when playing the Sunday-matinee slot.  

  • Sophia Green enters conference play as the league leader with six goals and 14 points in eight matches. 

  • Green's goal in the 12th minute against Oklahoma was the 20th goal of her career with the Mavericks. She holds the Omaha Division I record for goals and points in a career with 20 goals and 48 points, passing Chelsi Rohloff's 19 goals and 46 points from 2013-15. 

  • Goalkeeper Emma Konsmo made seven saves in the victory over Oklahoma. Konsmo was clutch down the stretch, making a save on the Sooners' leading scorer with 13 seconds left to preserve the Mavericks' victory. The sophomore was named TicketSmarter Summit League Defensive Peak Performer of the Week on Monday. 

  • Konsmo has started all eight matches for Omaha, ranking third in the league with a goals-against average of 1.125. Emma is tied for second in the Summit with three shutouts this year. 

  • Omaha was tabbed third in the Summit League Preseason Poll after finishing third in the regular season last year. 

  • Grace Ostergaard and Regan Zimmers were named Players to Watch by the Summit League. 

  • Head coach Tim Walters enters his seventh season at the helm. He has recorded 46 wins on the pitch, including three Summit League semifinal wins, one Summit League championship and a NCAA Tournament appearance. 

  • The goalkeeping duo of senior Mia Reedtz and sophomore Emma Konsmo combined for eight team-shutouts last season. Reedtz started 12 matches last season between the pipes with a save percentage of 72% and a goals-against average of 1.25. Konsmo started 10 matches in net with a save percentage of 76.5% and an average of 1.54 goals against. 

  • Five newcomers joined the Mavericks this season, including four freshmen and one redshirt-sophomore transfer. 

  • The Mavericks play their first match on a Thursday since the win over UCSB on Aug. 31. Omaha is undefeated with a record of 2-0-1 on Thursdays this season. 

SCOUTING THE NORTH DAKOTA FIGHTING HAWKS 

The Fighting Hawks of North Dakota are 4-4-2 after a 3-0 win against Arkansas Pine Bluff. The Hawks have one opponent in common with the Mavericks, as both UND and Omaha fell to the Cowgirls of Wyoming by a score of 2-1. North Dakota is 2-4-2 in home games at Bronson Field. The Fighting Hawks have the best save percentage in the Summit League through 10 matches this season at .839. 

FIGHTING HAWKS TO WATCH 

• Redshirt freshman Evelyn Pazienza shares the team lead with eight points on the season. Pazienza has scored goals in each of the Fighting Hawks' previous matches, garnering Offensive Peak Performer of the Week on Sept. 18. Her three goals this season rank second among rookies in the Summit League. 

• Allison Rapaduski leads the Fighting Hawks with four goals on the year, including two game-winning goals. Rapaduski has started all 10 matches for North Dakota this season, and shares the team lead with eight points on the season. 

• Goalkeeper Madi Livingston has started all 10 matches for the Fighting Hawks, averaging 0.90 goals against. Livingston leads the Summit League with five shutouts this season and is tied for second in the league with 47 saves. Livingston was tabbed Defensive Peak Performer of the Week on Sept. 5. 

SERIES HISTORY 
The Mavericks lead the all-time series with the Fighting Hawks 19-5-4. Omaha is undefeated in its last five matchups with North Dakota, going 4-0-1 over the past three seasons. The Mavericks defeated the Fighting Hawks by a score of 1-0 the last time the two teams met in the quarterfinal match of the 2022 Summit League Tournament.
