Omaha Athletics Announces New Sports Psychologist and Mental Health Support Unit

Omaha Athletics announced the hire of Dr. Lindsey Hauser, Psy.D., as the new Associate Athletic Director of Clinical and Performance Psychology today.  

This hire marks a pivotal moment for Omaha Athletics as the department continues to elevate its commitment in holistically supporting the development of Maverick student-athletes in coordination with recently enhanced NCAA Division I standards.  

"We are incredibly excited to see the impact of this additional support area on Maverick student-athletes" said Adrian Dowell, Vice Chancellor / Director of Athletics.  "Dr. Hauser's expertise and background is the ideal fit to develop and integrate this vital support unit  and we are very grateful to the generous donors who have made this transformational moment possible." 

As the Sports Psychologist, Dr. Hauser will foster well-being and peak performance at the intersection of mental and physical health. She will play a crucial role in elevating student-athlete performance in and outside of their respective sports by providing psychological services, mental skills training, team building and leadership development for all student-athletes, coaches, and support staff.   

"Being a student-athlete comes with its own set of unique and demanding challenges, and I am excited to support the mental wellness of the Maverick athlete with quality mental health and performance services," Dr. Hauser said.  

Omaha Athletics is also in the process of on-boarding a Mental Health Practitioner in partnership with the Division of Student Life and Wellbeing.  

Prior to UNO, Dr. Hauser spent 15 years at the Boys Town Center for Behavioral Health and one year at Creighton University. At Boys Town, Dr. Hauser was the Assistant Director of Training.   

She tailored her clinical practice to focus on supporting the mental health of older adolescents, emerging adults and student-athletes from across the Omaha community. Dr. Hauser completed her APA-Accredited Internship with the Creighton University counseling center with a focus on generalized mental health, student transitions and eating disorder treatment from 2007-2008. Since January of 2021, Dr. Hauser has been listed as a provider in the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee Mental Health Registry.   

Dr. Hauser graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in Psychology before earning her master's and doctorate degrees from the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology in 2008. While at USD, she was a member of the Swimming & Diving team as a springboard diver, where she competed at the national level for three consecutive years.   

Dr. Hauser resides in Omaha with her husband, Lance, and two sons, Jameson and Chase.
