OMAHA, Neb. -
Rayan Ali Hawili has been tabbed as the Director of Strength & Conditioning, Omaha athletics announced Wednesday morning. Hawili brings with him experience from three previous Division I athletic programs.
"I am excited to have Rayan lead our strength and conditioning department," said interim Associate Athletic Director of Performance Taryn Ninemire. "He will be another great addition to our staff and will continue to elevate our strength and conditioning efforts."
Hawili will work primarily with men's basketball, but also oversee a number of Omaha athletic teams. He will take lead efforts on designing, implementing, and evaluating all aspects for the strength and conditioning department.
"Our family is extremely excited to live in the beautiful city of Omaha and immerse ourselves into this great community," said Hawili. "Our staff will work diligently in ensuring that we serve our student-athletes to best of our ability and support them along their journeys to winning championships at Omaha."
Before joining the Mavericks, Hawili spent the last two and a half years at Boise State as an Associate Director of Sports Performance. While with the Broncos, he oversaw women's basketball, softball, women's tennis, and gymnastic programs. Hawili was also responsible for creating and coordinating a profession internship program that included professional and personal development curriculum. He helped order and provide a fueling station and weight room equipment for athletes as well as creating the Bronco Fitness & Wellness Challenge to engage department staff in prioritizing their health.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Hawili established a social media presence for Boise State's strength and conditioning department. He helped the team create and distribute daily equipment-free training sessions for the student-athletes.
Prior to Boise State, Hawili served as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Illinois State. He designed, implemented, and evaluated all aspects of the development for the women's basketball, softball, and track & field programs. In addition to overseeing those teams, Hawili also used body composition testing to evaluate his programs and created and taught profession development curriculum for the department's field experience students.
Hawili began his professional career as a graduate assistant at North Dakota State. While with the Bison, he oversaw softball, men's golf, and track & field. Hawili helped educate the strength and conditioning interns and field experience students. He also represented the program on social media by helping create and publish weekly informational content.
Hawili earned his Bachelor of Science in exercise science from Saginaw Valley State in 2017. He completed a Master of Science in health, nutrition, and exercise science at NDSU in 2019.
