Mavericks Cruise to Season Opening Win

Omaha, Neb.-- The Mavericks scored four times to win their season opener over the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on Thursday night.

Omaha begins the season with a record of 1-0.

How it Happened

  • It took just two minutes and 17 seconds for the Mavericks to get on the board. A 3rd minute corner kick led to the first Omaha goal of the season as Cece Behrens was able to connect with a nice header into the upper left corner. Sophia Green and Grace Crockett picked up the set-piece assists. (1-0)

  • Omaha continued to add pressure, totaling seven shots in the first half, including four on goal. They allowed three Thunderbird shots and did not allow SUU to put a shot on goal in the first 45.

  • Early in the second half, Sophia Green caught a pass from Marissa Gohr and placed it perfectly in the net, doubling the Mavericks' lead in the 52nd minute. Alyssa Kellar also picked up an assist on Green's goal for her first point as a Maverick. (2-0)

  • Emma Konsmo made her first stop of the game in the 67th minute. She would finish with three saves in her first shutout of the season.

  • Emilie Erland notched her first goal of the year with a header in the 77th minute. Crockett was able to find Erland from the corner kick. Grace finished the match with two assists. (3-0)

  • Alyssa Kellar put the cherry on top for Omaha in the 84th minute. The sophomore picked up her first goal in black and crimson by picking off the Thunderbird throw in and burying it in the back of the net. (4-0)
