Mavericks Bested Late by Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. - In their final non-conference game of the season, the Mavericks held onto a slim lead for much of the day, but fell late on a walk-off home run as Creighton won 4-2. The Mavericks will split the season series with the Bluejays 1-1 as both teams finish with a 3-2 record against in-state opponents.

Omaha will head into the weekend at 20-24 and are guaranteed to end the regular season below .500, while Creighton snaps a seven-game losing streak to improve to 24-22.

Innings 1-5
Making his second-straight mid-week start, Alex Potter picked up right where he left off last week and was fully dialed in all day. Through five innings of work, he had allowed five hits and no walks while striking out three, matching Creighton's starter Anthony Watts beat for beat as the game remained scoreless.

It was not until the fifth inning that someone finally got on the board, courtesy of a two-run shot to left from Devin Hurdle to knock out Watts.

Innings 6-9
Jackson Gordon came in to relieve Potter after five scoreless innings and promptly blanked the Bluejays in the sixth. The next inning, though, the Bluejays tied it up on a two-run homer of their own. The next inning, Brennen Bales shifted over from DH to pitcher and blanked Creighton in the eighth with a pair of strikeouts to keep it 2-2 heading into the ninth.

After the Mavericks were unable to bring home a couple of runners in the top of the ninth, the Bluejays got a two-out walk-off home run from Ben Gbur to take the game.

Inside the Box Score
Going back to his last start, Potter is now sporting a nine-inning scoreless streak.

Hurdle went 2-for-5 today to pick up his 20th multi-hit game of the season, while Mike Boeve went 3-for-4 to earn his 18th.

Up Next
The Mavericks are down to their final three games of the season as they take on Northern Colorado on the road beginning Thursday at 2 p.m. as they look to secure a spot in the Summit League Tournament.
